Nací en Buenos Aires, me convertí en fotógrafa en Europa y ahora vivo entre Nueva York y Bruselas. Después de décadas de viajar por el mundo, me considero una ciudadana global, me siento como en casa en Europa, América o Asia. Me interesa la trayectoria que explica la condición humana, el conflicto interno y la historia detrás de quién y dónde estamos ahora.
Todos somos migrantes de diferentes maneras, moviéndonos tratando de mejorar nuestra suerte en la vida, como lo ha sido desde el principio de los tiempos. Intento captar esta dinámica humana en mi fotografía, hecha de esperanzas cumplidas o destrozadas, con su drama y sus contradicciones. La odisea de la vida misma.
I grew up in Buenos Aires, became a photographer in Europe and I am now living between New York and Brussels. After decades of moving around the world, I feel equally at home in Europe, America or Asia. My life has clearly influenced the way I look at the people around me.
I have always lived in big cities with a large floating population, which naturally led me to empathize with them. We all are migrants in different ways, moving around trying to improve our lot in life, as it has been since the beginning of times. I try to capture this human dynamic in my photography, made of hopes fulfilled or shattered, with its drama and contradictions. The odyssey of human life.
1- ¿Cómo definirías la fotografía de calle? / What is your definition of Street Photography?
La fotografía de calle es una imagen franca tomada en un espacio público, con o sin personas pero con elementos relacionados al ser humano. Sin connotación humana, podríamos estar tomando paisajes u otro tipo de fotografía.
Street photography is a candid image taken in a public space, with or without people, but with a human element. Without any human connotation, we would be taking landscape or another type of photography
2.- Fotógrafos Favorito / Any favourite Street Photographers?
Soy una persona bastante ecléctica y la amplitud de mis intereses puede parecer extraña. Sin embargo, tengo preferencia por la SP que roza con la fotografía documental.
No mencionaré a todos los fotógrafos que admiro por que sería muy largo, pero entre los clásicos están primero Ramón Masats, Josef Koudelka, Eugene Smith y, por supuesto, Robert Frank.
Me inspira el trabajo de Joel Meyerowitz, Alex Webb, Bruce Davidson, David Alan Harvey. También me fascina el personaje de Martin Parr y gran parte de su fotografía, pero hay más, muchos más, incluidos poetas de la imagen como Rohit Vohra y Vineet Vohra, a quienes considero mis maestros
I am a very eclectic person, so the breadth of my interests might seem bizarre. Nevertheless, I love the SP that borders the documentary field.
I will not mention all the photographers I admire as this would be far too long, but I love Ramón Masats, Josef Koudelka, Eugene Smith and of course, Robert Frank, among the «classics».
I am inspired by the work of Joel Meyerowitz, Alex Webb, Bruce Davidson, David Alan Harvey and I am also fascinated by the character of Martin Parr and much of his photography. But there are more, many more, including the poetic images by Rohit Vohra and Vineet Vohra, my masters
3- ¿Blanco y negro o color? / Black and White or Colour?
Tomar una foto en color o en blanco y negro depende de la imagen en sí, de lo que quieras decir y dónde quieres poner el acento. El estado emocional del momento también interviene a la hora de elegir. Personalmente, he estado experimentando con el color como un elemento más en mi fotografía durante varios años.
The choice of taking a photo in color or black and white depends on the image itself, what you want to tell and where you want to put the accent. The emotional state of the moment also intervenes. 4- ¿Utilizas música cuando haces fotos o prefieres escuchar el sonido de la calle? / Do you listen to music while shooting, or do you prefer listening to the sound of the streets?
Cuando estoy tomando fotos, necesito sentir la calle en todos sus aspectos, y el sonido es fundamental, pero al editar, dependiendo de las imágenes, escucho a Bach, Chopin o Asaf Avidan. Como dije, soy bastante ecléctica…

5- ¿Espacios llenos o vacíos? / What do you like better, crowded or empty streets
Depende de lo que esté buscando. Para capturar emociones o gestos, prefiero las multitudes, pero muchas veces me atrapa un fondo, una luz o un color, y en ese caso, prefiero que casi no haya nadie, entonces, puedo pasar horas hasta encontrar el primer plano que me interese.
It depends on what I am looking for. To capture emotions or gestures I prefer crowds, but many times a background, a light or a color catch my attention, and then I prefer that there are hardly any people. I can spend hours until I find the right foreground.
6- ¿Cuál es tu herramienta (cámara, objetivos, móvil…) preferida? ¿Por qué y cómo la utilizas? / What is your favourite photography tool (camera, lenses, smartphone)? Why? How do you use them/it?
Tengo dos cámaras que son casi como mis hijos y hasta tienen nombre propio. Una Sony Cyber-shot RX100 recomendada por el gran fotógrafo Nils Jorgensen durante un taller en Londres en 2014, y una Leica Q 116 que cambiaré en breve por la nueva Q2. En ambos casos, siempre con un 28 mm.
Utilizo mi teléfono solo para fotos familiares o para tener referencias de lugares a los que quisiera regresar a hacer fotos.
I have two cameras that are almost like my children and even have a nickname. A Sony Cyber-shot RX100 recommended by the great photographer Nils Jorgensen during a workshop in London in 2014, and a Leica Q type 116 that I will exchange shortly for the new Q2. In both cases, always with a 28 mm.
I use my phone only for family photos or to have references of places to which I am interested in returning.
7- ¿Qué llevas en tu mochila fotográfica? / What do you carry in your camera bag?
No suelo utilizar bolsa para la cámara. Solo llevo mi cámara al cuello, 5 baterías, dos tarjetas de memoria y algo para limpiar la lente … eso es todo.
No camera bag. I just carry my camera around my neck, 5 batteries, two memory cards and something to clean the lens… that’s all.
8- Consejos para los amantes de la fotografía de calle / Any tips for Street Photography lovers?
En SP no debes esperar nada a cambio. Es algo que se hace fundamentalmente por y para uno mismo. Es un espacio meditativo y personal, donde a través de la variedad que aparece ante tus ojos, aprenderás mucho sobre ti mismo.
Pasa el menor tiempo posible aprendiendo la técnica y el mayor tiempo posible mirando imágenes de los fotógrafos que admiras, ve al cine, al teatro, escucha música con los ojos cerrados, mira todos los detalles y cuéntate historias a ti mismo.
Sal sin tu cámara. Imagina qué harías si la tuvieras contigo ¿Cómo usarías la luz disponible? ¿Qué ves en el fondo que te molesta? ¿Qué es lo que te resulta interesante frente a tu cámara imaginaria? Pregúntate qué quieres contar, por qué, para qué …
Entonces sal y descubre. Solo aprenderás de los errores, no entres en pánico y continúa. Se respetuoso y agradecido. ¡Bienvenido al vicio de la fotografía callejera!
In street photography, you should not expect anything in return. It is something that is fundamentally done for and by oneself. It is a meditative and personal space. Actually, through the variety that appears before your eyes, you would learn about yourself.
Spend as little time as possible learning the technique and as much time as possible looking at the work of photographers you admire, go to the cinema, the theatre, listen to music with your eyes closed, looking at details, telling you stories.
Go out without your camera. Imagine what would you do if you had it with you. How would you use the available light? What is in the background that bothers you? What is that you find interesting in front of your imaginary camera? Ask yourself what do you want to tell, why and for what.
Then go out and discover. You only learn from mistakes, do not panic, go on. Be respectful and grateful. Welcome to the vice of street photography!
